My beloved homeland

Mendoza, Argentina, 2021

There is something about Mendoza that fills me.

It could be its snow-capped mountains in mid-summer, or the way willows gently caress the banks of the rivers. It could be its green and lively aridity or its golden grasslands.

It could be because, even though I have been gone for 25 years, I feel it is very much mine. Or maybe the smell of jasmine in my grandmother's house. It could be because even though the years go by, everything remains the same, frozen in time. It could be its irrigation ditches, or its vineyards. Or maybe it’s just the wine, or the Del Monte’s “lomitos”.

Maybe it’s everything.
